It's-a-me, Charlie.

My name is Charles Grimes and I am an aspiring software developer currently attending the University of the west of England. My course focuses heavily on C++\XNA, although in my spare time I focus on Java and .NET.

Originally I hated the introduction to programming module that my course held during my first year. I dreaded going to the class as I just couldn't get my head around it all. The simpilest things like reading input from a user hurt my head and it really got to me as I knew that if I failed that module, I would fail my first year of uni. After working so hard to get there, I couldn't let this happen. So quite late into the year, I got my ass into gear and started youtubing tutorials. And with what I learnt, I then applied it with simple console applications until I understood everything that was happening. Two weeks later, I managed to complete my assignments with ease and also aced the exam :D

The summer holiday came and I found myself youtubing more and more advanced tutorials and didn't even realise I had developed a passion for this topic I once hated. I knew that in the next year the course would be teaching C++ and XNA, so I bought the most recommended books for each technology and carried on where I left off. After spamming tutorials for the entire summer, I came back to my course knowing most of the syllabus for the C++ programming module. This led to me not needing to spend too much time on the assignments, which allowed me to use my spare time to focus on .NET and Java.

So that's my story so far, want to know more? Feel free to click on the "Contact me" link on this page if you want a nerdy chat, or if you're interesting in hiring me and would like a copy of my CV :)

Side note: I want to take this opportunity to explain the layout of my website.

All the XNA, Qt and Windows Forms stuff in the assignment pages are exactly what they are, assignments. The stuff in the specific pages are extra projects I did during my course.
